The Cat-a-Tat is a freestanding modular cat habitat designed with sustainable materials from fast-growing bamboo to biodegradable wool.
The Cat-a-Tat uses sustainable materials from non-formaldehyde bamboo, recyclable coir, sisal and nylon scratching panels to a 100% biodegradable wool interior and non-formaldehyde glue.
The wool interior is unique because it features a hemp/cotton backing with a secondary jute backing. This allows the entire interior to be replaced and composted.
Not all bamboo is sustainable. Cat-a-Tat uses five-year-old bamboo poles that are hand-harvested from a forest that requires no irrigation or pesticides. Only 20% of the bamboo is cut each year to ensure the health of the forest ecosystem.
A non-formaldehyde based glue is used in the manufacture of the bamboo plywood. Traditional plywood uses formaldehyde, which the EPA classifies as a probable carcinogen.
Modular cubes can be used individually or in combination with one or two additional cubes. This customization provides customers with the ability to accommodate the needs of their cats with their living space.
Each panel can be customized and replaced as needed. Material choices include coconut-fiber coir, sisal produced from agave plants or 100% recycled nylon carpeting.
Offering a variety of scratching materials allows the owner to adapt to their cat's preferences and reduce the amount of waste associated with traditional cat scratching posts and habitats.
