Laura Urquiaga

I'm a service designer, human-centered researcher and experience strategist with roots in photojournalism and industrial design.

I create products and services for complex social and environmental problems for businesses + nonprofits. Strengths include design thinking, ethnographic research, data visualization, concept ideation, rapid prototyping, user testing and analysis.

I've spent my life developing the skills needed to create and lead change.

I have worked as a photojournalist and editor across the U.S. and in various countries from Cuba to France. I'm a hands-on designer, educator and strategic researcher who has worked for businesses, non-profits, universities and service providers. I have worked in the area of criminal justice reform and am currently working to ensure all of Kaiser Permanente’s products reflect the voices of our members, clinicians, staff and the communities we serve.

I am driven by curiosity and the desire to learn.

I have a BA in journalism with a minor in environmental studies and an MA in industrial arts. My creativity is fueled by adventures with my husband and daughter as we trek across the world in search of music, art, architecture and delicious food.
